Mason Cash Ceramic Basin
Crafted for the Christmas pudding connoisseur, this nostalgic presentation will take you back to days of old. A classic Mason Cash ceramic pudding basin, topped with cotton wrap and the traditional ‘rabbit ears’ knot.
This luxurious Dickensian pudding requires steaming on Christmas Day, but it’s worth it! Made with rich and warming 10-year-old Somerset Cider Brandy for exceptional flavour.
Recyclable Plastic Basin
A modern twist on our legendary Christmas pudding, designed with convenience in mind. Made without the traditional ceramic bowl, these puddings are packaged in a beautiful festive box, featuring specially-commissioned illustrations from local artist, Helen Leslie. Inside, you’ll find the pudding in a fully recyclable and reusable red pudding basin with a lid.
While we always recommend steaming for the ultimate moist, plump finish, if necessity dictates, our pudding in a plastic bowl can also be microwaved without losing any of its delight.
Heating instructions can be found below.

There’s a reason Christmas pudding was traditionally steamed, and we strongly recommend steaming yours if you can – it will be worth it!
For suggestions and advice on how to find time and space to steam instead of microwaving – have a look at this article.
If steaming really isn’t an option, you can microwave our pudding in a plastic basin (but not ceramic) and it will still be delicious!
All our puddings come with full heating instructions.
STEAMER, SAUCEPAN, BAIN MARIE OR SLOW COOKER
This is our preferred method. Gentle heating allows the suet to melt slowly into the pudding, creating a much lighter, more traditional texture.
Remove the tag and ribbon but leave the cloth in place. Put your pudding bowl in a steamer, or in an inch of hot water in a saucepan, slow cooker or bain marie. Take care to ensure it doesn’t boil dry.
At the end of the cooking time, leave to rest for 5 minutes, then remove the cloth, and run a blunt knife around the sides before turning out.
Steam timings:
950g pudding: two hours
750g pudding: 90 minutes
550g pudding: 90 minutes
350g pudding: one hour
MICROWAVE (plastic basins only)
Plastic basin: If you purchase a Christmas pudding in a plastic basin, it can be microwaved if you aren’t able to steam it. (See this article for tips on steaming.)
Ceramic basin: We don’t recommend microwaving our Christmas pudding in a ceramic bowl, as they have been matured in the traditional way which can give a heavy consistency if not steamed as directed above.
Microwave timings:
Loosen the lid before heating. Ensure your pudding is piping hot and leave to rest for 5 minutes before serving to avoid cold spots. Carefully remove the kid and upend the bowl onto the serving dish. After a short time, the pudding will loosen and come free from the bowl (if not, squeeze the bowl gently).
These are estimates, as all microwaves vary:
750g pudding: 4-5 minutes
350g pudding: 2-3 minutes
